The weeping cherry of Myoyuji Temple, located in Nakai, Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, is in a mountain area about 15 minutes by car from JR Obama Station, with good access. As a beautiful cherry blossom spot representative of the Wakasa region, the tree stands majestically in a corner of the grounds and blooms beautiful pink flowers in spring. Its branches droop gracefully almost touching the ground, creating a dreamlike scene like a curtain of cherry blossoms at full bloom. The contrast of the silent temple atmosphere with the elegant weeping cherry deeply moves visitors. It is said to have been planted about 130 years ago by a parishioner who brought a sapling back from a visit to Kuonji Temple, the head temple of the Nichiren sect. Growing over many years, it has now become a symbol of the region. Blooming from late March to early April, it is also designated as a natural monument of Obama City.
