In the Izumo region, many Izumo myths are passed down, including the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. Meanwhile, kagura, which has been handed down since ancient times as a Shinto ritual performed only by priests, developed in the Edo period into mythological plays with masks based on Izumo myths, with the participation of the common people, adding an aspect of entertainment. Enjoy watching Izumo kagura in this old-fashioned way. Viewing plans are available on the day if there is space; the hands-on plan requires advance reservation.
