Sunomata Ichiya Castle is said to have been built overnight in 1566 (Eiroku 9) by Kinoshita Tokichiro (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi). Along the embankment of the Sai River flowing around the castle, about 1,000 Yoshino cherry trees over 50 years old form a cherry tree row extending 2 km. After passing through the cherry blossom tunnel, you reach Sunomata Ichiya Castle (Ogaki City Sunomata Historical Museum), and the castle and cherry blossoms harmonize beautifully, creating an atmospheric scene. It has also been selected as one of the 33 Best Cherry Blossoms of Hida-Mino.
