Led by a child dressed as a flower-hat figure, a procession of drum floats, costumed children, a portable shrine, and women in the marumage hairstyle wearing elegant kimono — recruited from the general public — winds through the city streets. The festival is said to originate from geisha who, once a year on their day off, tied the marumage hairstyle symbolizing married women and offered prayers to the Kannon statue at Senjuji Temple, wishing for happy marriages.
