The Hime-botaru is a terrestrial firefly species found from Honshu to Kyushu, smaller than Genji and Heike fireflies at 6–9mm. It flashes rapidly like a camera flash and glows from around midnight until about 3 a.m. Separate sessions include introductory night photography with a DSLR (shooting fireflies, starscapes, and nightscapes; instructor: Michihiro Shinoda) and a Hime-botaru observation event (alphorn performance: Yoko Takagi; freshwater snail explanation: Takatsugu Kawai).
