One of the two major festivals in the Miyakonojo and Kitamoro area, the Hayama Festival has a history of over 100 years. Highlights include the Jankan Uma Odori horse dance praying for a bountiful harvest, rotating dedications of traditional performing arts from throughout the town, and the 'Niwamodoushi' in which performers spread out to each district after the dedication. The stage features dances and shows by local groups and performances by local hero 'Mimata Ranger.' Archery, kendo, and shihanteki dedication tournaments are also held simultaneously.
