Enshrined at the site of the residence said to have been the base of activities for Abe no Seimei (921–1005), who achieved fame as an onmyoji. At the time of its founding, Seimei Shrine is said to have been vast, extending from Horikawa-dori in the east, Kuromon-dori in the west, Motoseiganji-dori in the north, and Nakadachiuri-dori in the south. The early-blooming Kawazu cherry tree that blooms at Ichijo Modoribashi Bridge, located directly across Horikawa-dori from Seimei Shrine, is affectionately known as "Seimei Sakura." You can fully feel and receive the power of spring from the deep, vivid pink unique to Kawazu cherry blossoms and from Seimei Shrine, known for warding off evil and misfortune.
