Sukumo Tenmangu Shrine in Sukumo City, Kochi Prefecture, is a historic shrine known as a cherry blossom spot. It is said to have been founded in the Muromachi period and has a long history. In the solemn atmosphere, you can feel the warmth of welcoming spring, creating moments that seem to wash the heart. The cherry blossoms blooming in profusion within its precincts continue to be loved by people unchanged through the long years. The contrast between the dignified shrine building and the cherry blossoms in full bloom is truly a spring spectacle. Sukumo City sees the cherry blossom front arrive relatively early in late March, sometimes the earliest in the country. As a place of relaxation for citizens, paper lanterns are lit during cherry blossom season, allowing visitors to enjoy fantastical night cherry blossom scenery different from the day.
