Located on the west bank of the Kitakami River, approximately 2 kilometers east of Hanamaki Station, this spot was named by the poet Kenji Miyazawa. During the geological era known as the Tertiary period, this area was indeed once a seashore, and the appearance of white mudstone and blue water reminded Miyazawa of the White Cliffs of Dover, leading him to say it felt 'like walking along the chalk coast of England' — and so he named it 'England Coast.' In spring, cherry blossoms can be enjoyed here, and the riverside path becomes a beautiful avenue of blooms.
