Founded in 1225 (Karoku 1) and relocated to its current location in the Tensho era, Saiganji Temple's weeping cherry is a leading giant tree in the Gunnai region of Yamanashi Prefecture, with a trunk circumference of about 3 m and a height of about 9 m. The cherry blossoms blooming on branches drooping enough to reach the ground, spreading to a diameter of about 16 m, are spectacular. Additionally, the Shichihenge maple spreading branches alongside the weeping cherry sprouts red buds at the same time as the weeping cherry blooms.
