Omoigawazakura is a mutated species of October cherry discovered in the city in 1954 (Showa 29). With about 10 petals, it is half-double-flowered, blooming only in spring. Lovely pale red flowers bloom in the period between Somei Yoshino and double-flowered cherries, and its branch growth is also gentle and soft, which is its charm. In 1978, it was also designated as the city's flower. Through a cherry blossom adoptive parent system, Omoigawazakura is planted on the Omoigawa embankment, beautifully coloring spring along the Omoigawa.
