An annual festival passed down at Miohasira Shrine is held the day before the Osato Hachimangu autumn festival. Baby boys born in the past year enter the sumo ring (dohyo). Around their waist, an embroidered kesho-mawashi (ceremonial apron) featuring a brave tiger or hawk with a ring name based on their own name, and a red-and-white striped hachimaki (headband) is tied tightly on their head, completing the adorable little sumo wrestler. Standing on the dohyo, the referee announces the victor's name and holds the baby aloft, praying they grow up big, strong, and brave like a sumo wrestler.
