Muramatsu Park is famous for about 3,000 cherry trees and is selected as one of the 100 famous cherry blossom spots in Japan, one of three locations in Niigata Prefecture. Night illumination is conducted in line with blooming. Nearly 90% of the cherry trees are Somei Yoshino, and the sight of them all reaching full bloom at once is overwhelming. There are also rare varieties such as Hosaki Higan Yaezakura. Tours of cherry blossom spots in the city, such as Awashima Park, Sakurahashi, and Oyamada Higan Sakura, are also recommended. Events such as Sakura Marche and food trucks can also be enjoyed (check the website for details).
