Funaoka Castle Ruins Park in Shibata Town, Miyagi Prefecture, is the site of the Shibata clan's residence until the Meiji Restoration and is known as one of Tohoku's premier cherry blossom spots. With over 1,300 cherry trees, together with the Shiroishi River Bank Hitomesenbonzakura (which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023), it is the only place in Miyagi selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Sites. The view from the summit where the Funaoka Peace Kannon stands is spectacular.
