Archers dressed in Kamakura-period hunting garb and attendants in ceremonial roles parade along the course, beginning the magnificent yabusame (horseback archery). The archer rides a galloping horse and shoots three targets in succession: the first for national prosperity, the second for world peace, the third for abundant harvests. They also pray for the expulsion of plague and evil spirits. Washihara Hachimangu is also famous for about 100 cherry trees, drawing large crowds to witness the heroic samurai scene under full bloom.
