About 200 cherry trees bloom magnificently along the moat of Matsugasaki Park (Uesugi Shrine) in Yonezawa City, Yamagata, with their reflection in the water adding to the beauty. The view of cherry blossoms against the red Ryomon Bridge over the moat is especially picturesque. Dusk and the petals-on-water scene after the bloom are also beautiful. The annual Yonezawa Uesugi Festival (April 29 to May 3) is a historic event held alongside the shrine's annual festival, featuring the Kawanakajima Battle with 800 warriors, Uesugi Procession, parade, and taiko drumming.
