In the mid-Kamakura period, Toki Tsunenobu of Wakamiya took refuge in Nichiren and built Hokeji Temple, and Nikko, the son of Ota Norimaki, built Honmyoji Temple. The merger of these two temples is Hokekyoji. The precincts retain many important cultural properties, including the five-story pagoda. In spring, it is also known as a famous cherry blossom spot, popular with citizens and camera users alike.
