Koji Okamoto was a craftsman who inherited the tradition of Kyo embroidery with a thousand-year history and continued to protect its beauty and history. Born in Kyoto, he began training under his uncle, the third-generation Hiroaki Kato, at the age of 19, and became independent at 28. Due to the recession, he temporarily lived as a salaried worker and moved to Fukui in 1975. After retirement, he fully resumed the production of Kyo embroidery. This exhibition introduces selected works from the vast number of works donated to Echizen City, commemorating the achievements of Mr. Okamoto, who passed away in 2024.
