A historic temple located in Minobu Town, Minamikoma District, Yamanashi Prefecture, the head temple of the Nichiren sect, opened by Saint Nichiren during the Kamakura period. In spring, the cherry blossoms decorating the temple grounds create a beautiful landscape. Two weeping cherry trees said to be 400 years old in the Kuonji Temple grounds bear pale pink flowers on their broadly drooping branches, and in the Nishidani area, about 50 cherry trees aged 200-300 years bloom gloriously.
