Entering through the west gate of Honman-ji, located north of the Kyoto Imperial Palace and up Teramachi Imadegawa, you will see a large weeping cherry tree on the left. Although it is less than 100 years old, it displays a youthful and powerful landscape with magnificent branches. Visitors can enjoy the cherry blossoms while strolling leisurely through the temple grounds. It is a sister tree to the famous weeping cherry 'Gion Shidare' in Maruyama Park, and blooms quite early in Kyoto. It reaches about 50% bloom around mid-March and begins to fall in April, so it is best to view it early. During the weeping cherry blossom season, a spring-limited cherry blossom design is available for goshuin (temple stamps).
