In Keicho 7 (1602), Todo Takatora, a master of castle construction, began building. It is a coastal flatland castle, a rarity nationwide, with seawater drawn into the moat. The 5-story, 6-floor donjon now serves as an observatory and exhibition room. To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the castle's construction and town's opening, the bronze statue of Todo Takatora was erected in 2004, and the Kuroganegomon Gate was rebuilt in 2007. Also within the moat, Fukiage Park is planted with about 70 Yoshino cherry trees, adding splendor to Imabari Castle and Todo Takatora's statue.
