The Sanjo Festival, held as the spring grand festival of Hachimangu Shrine, the guardian deity of Sanjo, is a traditional event known for its daimyo procession with the prestige of a 100,000-koku domain. After the daimyo procession with tengu and mikoshi parading through the shopping streets, parents carry their 2-3 year old children on their shoulders, and together with the mikoshi and taiko, circle the Hachimangu shrine main hall three times in the 'Mairikomi' ritual—drawing many tourists every year. Over 100 food stalls set up shop.
