The cherry tree-lined row extending about 5 km along the Saho River flowing through central Nara City is a hanami spot representing the ancient capital. From Horen-cho to around the Yamato-Koriyama City border, about 1,000 Somei Yoshino cherries decorate both banks of the river, typically reaching peak from late March to early April. Branches extend over the gentle 5-10 meter wide flow, and the flower scenery reflected on the water surface is full of charm. This historic river, also sung in the Manyoshu, bustles with people enjoying walks and photography in spring. One charm is being able to view the cherry tree row from the train window between Nara and Koriyama on the JR Kansai Main Line (Yamatoji Line).
