Mt. Taika, designated as a Type 2 Special Area of the Seto Inland Sea National Park, is located on the Oshima Peninsula at the southern tip of Shunan City. With an elevation of 362m, it is an independent peak protruding into the sea, offering a 360-degree panoramic view. From the summit, you can see the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, the Kunisaki Peninsula of Oita Prefecture, and on clear days, even the Sadamisaki Peninsula of Ehime Prefecture in the distance. The summit features an observation deck and a stone monument of poet Tekkan Yosano's poem, along with driveways and hiking trails, drawing many climbers.
