The Yanagisaka Sone haze tree-lined avenue was planted about 280 years ago in the 2nd year of Kanpo by the Kurume Domain as a raw material for candle wax, and is a 1.2 km avenue of about 200 trees, mainly 'Ikichi haze'. Some old haze trees are 5-6 meters tall with a trunk circumference of over 2 meters, and are designated as a prefectural natural monument. It is also selected as one of the New 100 Famous Japanese Street Trees, making it a popular autumn foliage spot.
