About 2,800 Somei Yoshino cherry trees were planted in spring 1934 (Showa 9), wishing for the recovery of the former Toni Village damaged by the Sanriku Tsunami. At Hongo Cherry Blossom Row, considered the most spectacular among them, the Shikinen Grand Festival Mikoshi Procession of Tonimachi Joryusan Chinza Amaterasu Mioya Shrine is held in late April every 3 years, with a daimyo procession recreated (next time planned for 2027).
