The Lake Biwa Canal is a canal constructed in the Meiji period using the highest civil engineering technology of the time to supply water from Lake Biwa to Kyoto. On both banks, there are about 140 cherry tree avenues including Somei Yoshino, weeping cherry, and mountain cherry, making it a cherry blossom spot in Otsu City. Walking through the cherry blossom tunnel while strolling along the canal's promenade is a luxurious time to feel the breath of spring on your skin.
