Nanao Castle was the residence of the Masuda clan. The Honmaru ruins at the summit, at 118 m above sea level, offer a panoramic view of the Masuda Plain and the Sea of Japan. There are various theories about when it was built, but it appears in historical documents from the Nanboku-cho period. Old documents record that the southern court's Misumi clan and others launched a surprise attack on 'Kita-osaki Kido.' At the end of the Sengoku period, the 19th generation Fujikane renovated Nanao Castle in preparation for attacks by the Mori clan and resided there himself, but is said to have left the castle with the reconciliation. The cherry blossoms at Nanao Park can be enjoyed with the view of the water source pond.
