Yukyuzan Park, affectionately known as 'Oyama' (the mountain), is said to have begun when Tadatatsu Makino, the 3rd lord of the Nagaoka clan who loved this land, planted cedar seedlings from Sado, as well as pines and cherries. In spring, about 2,500 cherry trees including Somei Yoshino, weeping cherries, and double-flowered cherries bloom throughout Yukyuzan Park, attracting many hanami visitors each year.
