Cherry blossoms including Somei Yoshino bloom in profusion along the strolling paths in the park, selected as one of the '100 Best Urban Parks in Japan'. About 190 cherry trees are in the park, and including the surroundings, about 400. The area around the landscape pond where a senkokubune (cargo ship) recreated at half scale floats is reputed to be especially beautiful. The park is located on a hill where you can have a panoramic view of Sakata Port and the mouth of the Mogami River, and cherry blossoms enjoyed together with the sunset over the Sea of Japan are also spectacular.
