A type called 'Komatsunagi', a wild cherry lineage that blooms with young leaves. A late bloomer that begins blooming about 10 days after the cherry blossoms at Kofu Castle have fallen. This historic Otoguro cherry was unfortunately mostly cut down in the early Showa era due to embankment renovation work. Subsequently, a call was raised to revive the Otoguro cherry, and methods such as cutting from the few remaining Otoguro cherries are being attempted. Otoguro cherries are also planted at private homes scattered in the Otoguro area, but as these are private homes, please refrain from viewing.
