Among the various Buddhist sects that developed in various regions after the Kamakura period, Zen Buddhism built deep ties with Yamanashi, including the arrival of the Zen monk Rankei Doryu in Koshu and the activities of Muso Soseki and his disciples, who were favored by the Muromachi shogunate. This exhibition introduces the rich Zen culture that developed in Yamanashi through the influence brought by Zen monks as well as artistic works such as paintings and sculptures.
