The garden skillfully combines a formal garden with beautiful plane tree avenues, a landscape garden featuring vast lawns and tulip trees, and a traditional Japanese garden, and is said to be a representative modern Western-style garden of the Meiji era. The garden is shaped into a unique landscape by about 10,000 trees, including tulip trees, plane trees, Himalayan cedars, and bald cypresses, and about 900 cherry trees of about 70 varieties are a major attraction in spring. [Note: Bringing alcohol into Shinjuku Gyoen is prohibited. Also, on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29, 2026, and Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5, 2026, from 10:00 to 16:00, advance reservations are required.
