Japan's oldest shrine, with Mount Miwa—the sacred mountain where the nation-building god Omononushi-no-Okami is said to have enshrined his own spirit—as its sacred body. Cherry blossoms are throughout the precincts, with many varieties, so you can enjoy hanami over a wide area for a long time. The cherry blossoms at Omiwa no Mori show the original simple beauty of cherries, and the weeping cherry at the Omiwa no Mori observatory is especially spectacular.
