A magnificent weeping cherry tree towers over the Kuriyamazawa settlement — approximately 15 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of 2.25 meters and a lifespan exceeding 100 years. At full bloom in spring, it presents a breathtaking spectacle that draws photographers from far and wide. It is said that a villager who served in the Sendai Artillery during the Russo-Japanese War brought back seeds from a prized cherry tree that had grown in the inner garden of the Sendai domain.
