From 1987 (Showa 62) to 1998 (Heisei 10), as part of the Shimojo River Senbon Sakura Plan and the Cherry Embankment Model Project, about 600 Somei Yoshino cherry trees were planted on both banks from Iseryo Bridge to Oe Bridge. Walking paths have been developed along about 2.7 km on both banks, and during blooming season, the cherry tree-lined avenue is beautifully colored. During the cherry blossom blooming period, lights are illuminated from sunset, and cherry blossoms reflected on the water surface create a dreamlike landscape. On April 4 (Sat) and 5 (Sun), 2026, the Kotee (plaster relief) and Shimojo River Senbon Sakura Festival will be held, with stages featuring lion dances and more.
