A festival of Yaegaki Shrine held over May 2, 3, and 4 every year, famous for its three magnificent hikiyama (ornate festival floats). The tradition began in 1353 when villagers built three flower floats to entertain Emperor Gokogen when he took refuge in Tarui, Mino Province. The current three floats feature lacquer, maki-e painting, and intricate carved metalwork by master craftsmen. Children kabuki performances are also showcased, drawing many tourists.
