To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Akita Prefecture in 1972, approximately 2,000 cherry trees of 200 varieties collected from across Japan were planted over two years. Said to be one of only a few such academically significant parks in Japan. With many walking paths, the park is enjoyed by people of all ages. From late April, Jugatsu-zakura and Fuyu-zakura begin to bloom, followed by weeping cherry and yaezakura peaking from late April to mid-May.
