In 1866, Sakamoto Ryoma visited Kirishima in Kagoshima Prefecture together with his wife Oryo at the suggestion of Saigo Takamori and others, to heal wounds received at Teradaya. This is said to be the first honeymoon in Japan. At this Ryoma Honeymoon Walk in Kirishima, you will walk the Honeymoon Road that the two walked while envisioning Japan's future, becoming modern-day Ryoma and Oryo, and enjoy the nature and history of Kirishima, which was designated as Japan's first national park in March 1934 (Showa 9).
