Morioka Castle was built on a hilltop at the strategically important confluence of the Kitakami and Nakatsu rivers. Its Momoyama-style stone walls, still standing today, place it among the Three Great Castles of Tohoku alongside Aizu and Shirakawa. The Morioka Cherry Blossom Festival is held to coincide with the typical April bloom, featuring lantern lighting and cherry blossom illuminations (Note: details for the 2026 festival are yet to be determined; please check the official website).
