A wisteria festival is held at Kotouen (also known as Hirono Nagafuji), famous since the Edo period for its long wisteria. On the 1,000-square-meter site, 14 long wisteria plants and 1 daruma wisteria are planted, and during the peak blooming period visitors can enjoy the graceful scenery of flower clusters over 1.5 meters long in full color. The garden is filled with a sweet and refreshing jasmine-like fragrance. During the period, tea ceremonies and concerts are held, and on Saturday April 25, a one-night-only illumination using the red lanterns 'Namba Chochin,' traditional to Hekizan City, will be held (cancelled in rain).
