On day 3, the festival's biggest highlight takes place: the Procession of Lord Minamoto no Yoshitsune's Journey East. A popular actor or celebrity portrays Yoshitsune each year, recreating in Heian scroll style how he fled from his brother Yoritomo to Hiraizumi, where Fujiwara no Hidehira gave him a warm welcome. About 100 participants parade through town, attracting large crowds. Also features Chusonji Noh, the Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property Motsuji Ennenkagura dance, and Shishi Odori deer dance.
