A harvest festival to pray for a bountiful harvest and give thanks. Designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan, this traditional performing art has been practiced for over 440 years. Dedicated to the Jinushi Shrine for the comfort of islanders and to pray for the safety of the island, bountiful harvest, and rain, the traditional dance consists of two groups: one in a mainland style (Ichibangu) and one in a Ryukyu style (Nibangu). Well worth seeing.
