Daikosen-ji Temple is an ancient Tendai sect temple with roots in the Nara period, permitted to call itself a special head temple. Stored beside the main hall are nationally designated important cultural property wooden Buddhist statues, Komoku-ten and Tamon-ten. The vast grounds behind the main hall feature 50,000 azalea plants, more than 500 maple trees, large cedar and cypress trees, Japanese gardens, and viewing pavilions. In spring it is renowned for azaleas, and in autumn for fall foliage, drawing many visitors.
