At Minamiza in Kyoto, 'Hanagata Kabuki Special Performance' will present 'Sonezaki Shinju Monogatari', a new production of one of Chikamatsu Monzaemon's masterpieces, 'Sonezaki Shinju'. The passionate tragic love story of Ohatsu, a courtesan of Tenmaya, and Tokubei, a clerk of the soy sauce wholesaler Hirano-ya, will be performed by Ichitaro Nakamura and Ukon Onoe, who carry the next generation of the kabuki world. In addition to major roles in classical kabuki, the two, who continue to make great strides, will alternate roles in the Sakura Program and Matsu Program, performing in a double cast.
