Shirataka Town in Yamagata Prefecture has six ancient cherry trees over 500 years old, all designated as prefectural natural monuments. The Yakushi Zakura with a 1,200-year history still stands with imposing dignity. At Kamanokoishi Rural Park, Edobigan and Somei-yoshino grow alongside the approximately 800-year-old Kamanokoishi Sakura, whose death was confirmed; a clone tree was transplanted in March 2020. Together with the approximately 100-year-old Kamanokoishi Sakura 2nd generation tree 'Katsuya Zakura', these trees will surely bloom for the next 1,000 years.
