Writer Shimao Toshio collected various books since his teens. Many were lost due to repeated moves, but after Shimao's death, a vast collection remained in the library of his home on Amami Oshima. The museum received about 5,000 of these former collection books from his bereaved family and houses them. This exhibition displays a portion of these books and, through related materials such as diaries, reading notes, essays, and book reviews, examines the influence reading had on Shimao Toshio's life.
