This shrine is said to have been founded in 1186 when the Fujiwara clan, who came to this area as governors of Suo Province, enshrined a divided spirit of their ancestral deity from Kasuga Taisha in Nara. The Yoko cherry (named with the meaning 'the sun that gives blessings to heaven and earth') blooms from mid to late March. This cherry is a popular photo spot because it appears heart-shaped depending on the viewing angle.
