The approximately 1.5km approach from National Route 368 to the mountain gate of Shinpukuin is a famous mountain cherry spot also sung in pack-horse drivers' songs. The cherry blossom row is designated as a national scenic beauty and is also selected as one of the '100 Famous Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan'. There are about 500 mountain cherry trees, blooming from mid to late April every year. Mountain cherries grow slowly compared to other cherries but have a long life and are resistant to disease, living for hundreds of years even when trunks become moss-covered. When in full bloom, flowers and leaves open at the same time, creating an indescribable refined elegance.
