Saigyo Zakura no Mori is a popular cherry blossom destination in Hiraizumi Town, Iwate. Named after the monk Saigyo, who visited Hiraizumi twice in his lifetime and composed a poem moved by the spectacular cherry blossoms here. The forest was developed to revive the once-celebrated cherry mountain of Tabashine-yama, with approximately 3,000 cherry trees of about 100 varieties — including Oyamazakura and Somei-yoshino — planted throughout. At full bloom, a scenic walkway forms a tunnel of cherry blossoms.
